Welcome to Heron’s Hideaway! Heron’s Hideaway is one of those Chincoteague homes that really does feel like a hideaway. A true home away from home tucked at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac in peaceful Oyster Bay II and surrounded by trees, it feels wonderfully private, yet you’re still just a short drive from downtown Chincoteague and Assateague National Seashore, where our famous Wild Ponies roam free.
With 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, and room for up to 12 of your favorite people, there’s plenty of space to bring the whole crew. It works especially well for families and friends traveling together because you’ll find plenty of places to gather - and a few great spots to sneak away when you want a little quiet. And, Heron’s Hideaway welcomes your family dog - 2 max, and must be pre-approved.
Our pick? The Screened Porch. Morning coffee, an afternoon with a good book, cocktails after the beach, or a family game night when a summer shower rolls through—this is the kind of porch that just feels like Chincoteague. This is the kind of porch where memories are made….
There’s even more outdoor living upstairs on the elevated deck, where you can settle into a chair, catch a breeze, and enjoy the peaceful, tree-lined setting. Just imagine breathing in that salty, sweet sea breeze, while listening to the Tree Frogs sing - there’s nothing like it. At night, head back outside and see how many stars you can spot once the island settles down.
Inside, the Kitchen is ready for everything from pancakes before Assateague to a big family dinner. You’ll have granite countertops, full-size stainless appliances, and a dual-oven electric range, along with plenty of room to make yourself at home. Whip up some cheeseburgers in paradise on the Gas Grill, and dine either in the comfort of Central AC at the huge dining table, or Al-Fresco on the Screened Porch, complete with furniture for both dining and relaxing. Share stories of the day’s adventures while relaxing on the porch swing - THIS is what you’ve been yearning for…..
And yes, sometimes work follows you on vacation. Heron’s Hideaway has a dedicated office nook with a desk and monitor, so you can knock out what you need to without setting up shop at the dining table. Then close the laptop and get back to vacation!
The location may be one of the best parts. Oyster Bay II gives you a quieter side of Chincoteague, surrounded by nature and away from the busier parts of the island. But when you’re ready to head out, Chincoteague’s restaurants, shops, waterfront and attractions are close by, and the wild ponies, trails and gorgeous beach of Assateague Island are just a short drive away.
Spend the day at the beach. Bike the Wildlife Loop. Search for ponies. Wander downtown for one of our famous sunsets at Robert Reed Waterfront Park. Come home, rinse off the sand, and claim your favorite spot on the screened porch.
That’s a Chincoteague vacation. And Heron’s Hideaway is a pretty wonderful place to have one.
