A Guide to Experiencing Ocean City's Sunrises and Sunsets

In the realm of natural wonders, few spectacles rival the breathtaking beauty of an Ocean City sunrise and sunset. These daily marvels paint the sky with a palette of colors, evoking a sense of both tranquility and awe! We truly believe that if you’re seeking to immerse yourself in nature’s artistry, there’s no better place to be than OCMD. Our pristine beach and unspoiled landscapes offer the perfect backdrop for experiencing sunrises and sunsets in all their glory!

The Seaside Vacations & Sales team has put together this quick guide on how to make the most of these magical moments when visiting our beachside destination:

Planning Your Visit

  • Check the sunrise/sunset times for your chosen dates. Websites and mobile apps provide accurate timing information. If you’re looking to catch the sunset on the evening of your arrival, you’ll have plenty of time to get checked in and settled before heading to the west side of the city for sunset!
  • Consider visiting during the off-season for fewer crowds and a more intimate experience.
  • Observe from the water! Kayak or boat tours are a fun and unique way to take in the sunrise or sunset! Check out our list of options for tours and rentals here!

Sunrise Tips:

  • Rise early and head to the beach or enjoy the sunrise from your balcony if you happen to be staying at one of our oceanfront properties such as our popular Golden Sands condos.
  • Regardless of where you’ll be taking in the sunrise, you’ll want to be in place 30 minutes before sunrise to witness the gradual transformation of the sky.
  • If you’ll be witnessing the sunrise from the beach, don’t forget to pack your blanket or beach chair the night before you plan to see the sunrise! Nothing is worse than getting to the beach, only to realize you forgot to grab yours because you were rushing.
  • Pack a camera! Don’t spend too much time looking through your viewfinder, but having your camera handy to capture a snapshot of this amazing moment will ensure you leave Ocean City, MD with a memory that will last a lifetime!
  • Stay a while! Take a leisurely stroll along the shoreline after the sunrise to admire the tranquil beauty while listening to the sound of crashing waves.

Sunset Tips:

  • Choose a vantage point overlooking the water. The Ropewalk, Fager’s Island, or Spain Wine Bar are great places to enjoy a meal while taking in the sunset.
  • Arrive early to secure your spot. These restaurants WILL be packed during the peak season around sunset, and for good reason. They have some of the best views in the city! Locations like Northside Park (Perfect for a picnic dinner!) won’t be as difficult to get a good view, but arriving early is still highly recommended!
  • Don’t forget your camera! Again, try not to spend too much time peeking through your viewfinder, but you’ll want to cherish the beauty of an Ocean City, MD sunset until your next visit!
  • Stay a while after the sun dips below the horizon to experience the twilight glow and the emergence of the stars!

Respect Nature

  • Please leave no trace behind and practice responsible tourism by disposing of trash properly and respecting wildlife habitats.
  • Adhere to beach/park regulations and guidelines to ensure the preservation of Ocean City, MD's natural beauty for future generations to enjoy!

Enjoy the Moment

  • Breathe, relax, and be present in the moment. You’re here for vacation, after all. Spend this quality time with your loved ones, and remember that even if you don’t get the perfect picture or get a prime seat at your favorite location, there’s always next time!

Experiencing an Ocean City sunrise and sunset is a soul-stirring journey into the heart of nature’s beauty. Whether you’re drawn to the tranquility of dawn or the serenity of dusk, this beautiful beach town offers the perfect setting to witness these daily marvels.
