Museum of Chincoteague Island
Have you and your family ever been to the Museum of Chincoteague Island before? If you haven’t, then you are missing out on a great find. The island has a rich history of 200 years, and it is a barrier island off the coast of Virginia. Here you will be able to see the rich history of the island and learn a little more about the island’s people and culture. We promise that you won’t hear “I’m bored” from the kids on the day you visit this museum.
Another great place to explore while you are on vacation here in Chincoteague Island is the Assateague Lighthouse. Located on the southern end of a nearby island, Assateague is where you will find this lighthouse. This lighthouse is known for its colors of red and white, which resemble the Coast Guard. We recommend that you wear good shoes to climb to the top of the lighthouse as there are 175 steps in all. What a great day spending your time as a family exploring this impressive lighthouse together!

There is also a recreational beach there as well and during the summer many beach loving families can be found here. The Educational Center is open every day from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm and there is something for everyone to enjoy.
While you are over at the National Wildlife Refuge checking
out the Assateague Island Lighthouse, you may be able to get a quick glimpse of
the “Chincoteague” ponies. They are also known as the “Saltwater Cowboys” and
they can be seen year-round. Be sure to keep your distance from the horses as
they are wild, and they aren’t like the horses you may find elsewhere. If you
do happen to see one and it comes close, do not feed the horse either. Just sit
back and watch them in their natural habitat and take photos of them for the
family to remember that moment.

beach. Bring a small radio or speakers with you so you can jam to the tunes. Before
you head to the beach for the day make sure that you have enough beach towels
for everyone in the family. Once you are settled on the beach, lay the towels on
the sand to make a circle and it’s time to play musical towels. What a great
activity for the whole family to enjoy and have a good time!
Fly a Kite
Flying a kite while you are on vacation to the beach is one
of the most family-friendly activities. As a child, do you have memories of flying
a kite while running down the beach at Ocean City? For many families, this is a
classic beach activity that everyone in the family can have fun with. It doesn’t
matter where you got your kite from, it’s about how much fun you are having

the kite in the air. Not only are you spending time with your family, but you
are also getting a little exercise in too.
Beach Mini Golf
Playing mini golf at the beach is always fun, but when it’s played
by the ocean it becomes even more fun. Building your very own mini golf course
is just what the family can do on a hot day by the ocean. Head over to a local
dollar store to pick up the golf club sets and purchase enough balls for
everyone. Then when you are on the beach you and your family can design their
own course to play through. Use driftwood that you found on the beach to mark
each hole and play golf. Spending as much time together while you are on
vacation is what every family wants.
Playing any kind of game on the beach is always fun but
playing soccer can be even more fun. Bring a soccer ball with you on your next
trip to Ocean City and have a small game on the sand. You can either break up
into different teams or just make a circle to pass the ball back and forth.
